SEPTEMBER 2021
A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL EGAN
Principal Bill Egan NCHS
Welcome to the 2021-22 School Year!

Dear NCHS,

Welcome, NCHS families, to the 2021-2022 school year!  We are thrilled to begin a new year of teaching and learning at New Canaan High School. To the Class of 2025, welcome to the family. We look forward to seeing your academic and personal growth over the next four years.

We are excited to return to five full days of in-person instruction. Due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, all students and staff are required to wear masks while indoors and on buses, to maintain a social distance of at least three (3) feet where possible, and to use hand sanitizers and wash hands regularly. We will continue to update mitigation measures as Superintendent Dr. Luizzi determines what is needed to prioritize our staff and students’ safety and well-being.

I hope you had the opportunity to browse and familiarize yourself with our school website. It is constantly updated with important information with links to Announcements, Calendars, Daily Schedule, PFA news, PowerSchool, Staff Directory, and so much more.

Please take a moment to review our attendance policy which can be found on page 19 in the student handbook on our school website. You can email nchsattendance@ncps-k12.org or call 203-594-4672 to report an absence or if you have any questions.

Seniors and juniors driving to school must purchase a parking pass through the School Cash system (please bring in the payment receipt with a parent signature to the attendance office) and fill out the NCHS Parking Registration Form and the NCHS Off-Campus Policy Form online. Click here for the parking letter that was shared earlier in August. Parking passes can be picked up in the attendance office. Open House will be held virtually on the evening of Thursday, September 9th - more information to follow.

Finally, we will continue to communicate regularly with our NCHS school community. We look forward to a very positive and productive year together. I welcome you to involve yourself in our school in various ways and to regularly visit the PFA webpage for valuable information.

Please do not hesitate to contact me to answer any questions or further assist you and your family. Together, we will make this school year a success!

Best,

Bill Egan
NCHS Principal

A Note from Director Egan

CIAC COVID Guidance for Fall Sports

In alignment with current executive orders from the CT State Department of Education and Health, the CIAC issued new recommendations pertaining to mask requirements and quarantining for athletes.

In school buildings, athletes, regardless of vaccination status, must wear masks for all indoor activities including active competition, practice, and all events around active play. If practices/training sessions/games occur outdoors, no masks are necessary. Masks will be worn on all bus rides and food and drink are not permitted.

Fully vaccinated athletes and staff do not have to quarantine or test after a known exposure to COVID-19 as long as they remain asymptomatic. They must, however, wear a mask until receiving a negative COVID-19 test (taken between days 3 and 5 from the date of contact) or for 14 days without a test. Unvaccinated asymptomatic students who are a close contact of a known COVID-19 case will quarantine for 10 days (with a negative test between days 7 and 10) or 14 days without a test.

Vaccinated and unvaccinated students who experience COVID-19 symptoms after close contact with a known COVID-19 case will quarantine for 10 days (with a negative test between days 7 and 10) or 14 days without a test.

Best,

Jay Egan
Athletics Director

NC Rams All Sports Booster Club

The NC Rams All Sports Booster Club supports all New Canaan High School athletic programs. We raise and distribute funds to provide necessary athletic program components which are above and beyond those provided by the NCHS athletic budget and assures equity of resources for all CIAC-recognized sports. Each year, the Club funds additional coaches for every team, raising the skillset and abilities of all athletes.

More than 70% of all NCHS students participate in school athletics in any given year. For these students, athletics are an integral part of the educational process. Through athletic participation, students learn teamwork, work ethic, time management and a responsibility to others.
