POST PROM IS BACK! Please donate to support this special event for our seniors!

JANUARY 2022
A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL EGAN
Principal Bill Egan NCHS

Dear NCHS Family,

Let me begin by wishing you all a Happy and Healthy New Year filled with many successes and continued progress. During the break, I hope you had the chance to catch up with family and friends and enjoy some downtime.

As we ring in the new year, we see this as an opportunity to check in with students and families to ensure that our students are on-track, prepared, and ready for the second half of the year.

January is always about fresh beginnings and positive change. I love the promise of the new year and all the possibilities that it offers for our students and the potential for great achievement that each new year holds for their future.

We’re not out of the woods yet!  Just a friendly reminder, with Covid-19 and flu cases spiking, students should stay home if they are sick. And they should not return or gather with others until they are fever-free without fever-reducing medications. This is a basic principle to prevent the spread of illness. As our nurses mentioned in their health reminder email, they have seen a rise in community transmission of Covid-19 and Influenza.  Please continue to practice preventative measures that include physical distancing, proper mask-wearing, and hand hygiene.  Pandemic fatigue is real - let’s stay focused on our mitigation strategies to remain healthy and safe.

I am hopeful that 2022 will be a better year and return to the normalcy we are yearning for.

All the best in this new year!

Bill Egan, Principal

  • Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) scores have improved in the few years they have data for since the NGSS standards have been embedded in the curriculum.
  • In 2020-2021, NCHS students sent 3190 transcripts to 367 different colleges. Of those students, 88% attended schools that were very competitive (11%), highly competitive (42%) and most competitive (35%).
  • Due to the pandemic and certain pre-pandemic policies at certain colleges and universities, many colleges did not require students to submit SAT/ACT scores with their application. 40% of NCHS students did not submit SAT/ACT scores to the school they attended.

Healthier Start Times: Dr. Bryan Lzuizzi (12/21/21)

  • Dr Luizzi proposed the Board convene for an early January discussion of a new potential revised school start time schedule (Scenario B) as well as the previously discussed one (Scenario A).

Covid Update: Dr. Bryan Luizzi (12/21/21)

  • Dr. Luizzi reassured that mitigation strategies are still in place and make schools one of the safest places for kids. He plans on opening things up for students in a measured way while keeping everyone safe and healthy.

The Board observed a pause of silence for Claudia Monaco.
