NCHS Library Volunteers Needed

Please consider volunteering in the HS Library/Media Center this year! It's a great way to interact with students and get a feel for what's going on at NCHS.

The shifts are 95 minutes long every two weeks. The shift entails assisting at the circulation desk and shelving materials.  Past experience is not necessary.

Please contact Liz Orelup if you are interested in volunteering in the library.

Thank You to Our Volunteers!

It’s been a pleasure seeing so many parents at our Back-To-School events these past two weeks.  The PFA would like to thank the following committee chairs for helping to make the transition, or return, to NCHS both more enjoyable and manageable!

  • To Susan Cushman and Dana Marchiony, our New to New Canaan High School Chairs, for providing such a warm welcome to our new families.
  • To Tracy Goldman, Freshman Orientation Chair, and Jayne Benton and Kristie Breed, Freshman T-Shirt Chairs, for ensuring the Class of 2026 got off to a great start.
  • To Jodi Azzopardi, General Meeting Refreshments Chair, and Jayne Benton and Jen Gallagher, Open House Chairs, for providing refreshments and treats for our Welcome Back Events.

Colleges Visiting NCHS

College visits begin the week of September 12. Seniors who wish to attend college visits and hear first-hand the latest news from colleges in which they may be interested must register for the visits on Naviance and ask for permission from the faculty to miss class.

Students who are unable to meet with the reps should stop by the CCC before the visit time and fill out a form indicating their interest in the visiting school. Attendance is taken at these sessions which will be conducted in person or via  Zoom.

The visit schedule may be viewed through Naviance and on the School Counseling page of the NCHS website.

Juniors & Sophomores
PSAT Registration & Test Dates

The PSAT will be offered at New Canaan High School on Saturday, Oct 15, 2022. Juniors must register for the test online between Sep 7 - Sep 16, 2022. Click HERE to visit the registration site. The fee is $40.00.

Any student registering after Sep 16, 2022, will be charged a late fee of $10 in addition to the $40.00 fee. No registration will be accepted after Sep 19, 2022.

This is the only date that the PSAT is offered at NCHS this fall.

School Counselors recommend that all members of the JUNIOR class take the PSAT as preparation for the SAT that is taken the following spring. This is also the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Program for juniors.

Please contact your school counselor for help determining if your SOPHOMORE is ready to take the PSAT. Sophomores who are ready and interested in taking an initial PSAT can sit for the test being offered at New Canaan High School on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Sophomores may register for the test by visiting the above registration site.

Freshmen
Welcome to NCHS!

Our door is open! If you have any questions or concerns at the start of the school year, please stop by the counseling suite. See Mrs. Poccia, the Guidance receptionist to sign in and she will direct you to your counselor’s office. Remember that during the lunch periods, you can drop in without an appointment.

SCHOOL NEWS + NOTICES
Athletics
NC Rams All Sports Booster Club

The NC Rams All Sports Booster Club supports all New Canaan High School athletic programs. We raise and distribute funds to provide necessary athletic program components which are above and beyond those provided by the NCHS athletic budget and assures equity of resources for all CIAC-recognized sports. Each year, the Club funds additional coaches for every team, raising the skillset and abilities of all athletes.

More than 70% of all NCHS students participate in school athletics in any given year. For these students, athletics are an integral part of the educational process. Through athletic participation, students learn teamwork, work ethic, time management and a responsibility to others.
