Dear NCHS Families, 

I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and is fully recharged to have a great semester. Our March calendar is full of exciting high school events and activities.

On the evening of Thursday, March 2, we welcome students and parents to 9th Grade Parent Orientation at 6:30 PM in the auditorium. Families can meet representatives from all departments and learn about ninth grade course offerings in the core academic and elective disciplines. Students and families will meet our School Counselors in the Cafeteria throughout the evening. Click HERE to review the Program of Studies.

The NCHS Winter Musical production of “The Music Man” opens with four performances on Thursday, March 9 through Saturday, March 11 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 PM. Please click HERE to purchase tickets on the NCHS Theatre website. This promises to be another fantastic performance with a talented cast and crew.

On Thursday, March 16 is New Canaan High School’s 11th Annual Art Exhibition “Through Our Eyes XI”at the Carriage Barn Arts Center, with a reception from 5:00-7:00 PM. This exhibition features students in all media, grades 9-12. Look for more information to follow. Also on March 16th, the NCPS String Festival Performance begins at 7:00 PM in the high school auditorium. 

RAMJAM is back for a night of fun, fashion, and talent!  On Friday, March 31 at 6:30 PM, senior class members perform and take the runway to raise funds for the Post Prom. This always promises to be a fun and well-attended event. Click HERE for more information. 

The CT SAT School Day will be held on Tuesday, March 28. This SAT is for juniors only. A special schedule will follow the SAT for all grades. More details will be sent home at a later date.

Last, it’s time to buy a ball and watch them drop at the NC Color Drop on Saturday, March 25 at Waveny! Click HERE to visit the NCHS Scholarship Foundation website to purchase a ball (or two) for the chance to win one of the great prizes and support a need-based college scholarship.

A Parent's Guide to Modern Teen Dating: Part Two

Join Emma Kate Freatman, LPC at Silver Hill Hospital, for an open and honest conversation about modern teen dating. School Resource Officer Jeff Deak will also be present to answer questions.  All parents are welcome.

Post Prom 2023

Did you know that RAM JAM is the major fundraiser for Post Prom? 

Friday, March 31 | 6:30 PM

Ram Jam is our biggest Post Prom fundraiser! Come out on March 31 at 6:30 PM to support our senior boys and girls. Last year there were over 100 seniors who participated in Ram Jam. Check out the 2019 trailer here!

CAREER NIGHT
Save the Date for CAREER NIGHT 2023
Wednesday, March 22 | 7:00 PM

The PFA and the NCHS Counseling Department are excited to announce the return of Career Night! This traditionally biennial event was last held in 2019 due to the pandemic. 

Career Night offers all NCHS students the opportunity to hear from successful professionals and entrepreneurs working in a variety of industries and careers. The information students learn at Career Night may inspire brand new academic interests or reinforce existing ones. Either way, it's sure to be an invaluable evening that your student won't want to miss, particularly our juniors who won’t get another chance to participate before they graduate!

COUNSELING NEWS & EVENTS
College Essay Workshop for Juniors
Tuesday, March 14 and March 28 | 7:00 PM

There will be a college essay workshop for juniors on 3/14 and 3/28 from 7:00-8:30 PM. The workshops will be held on Zoom and will be conducted by the expert team at the College Essay Guy through a grant from the NCHS PFA! The link will be available to all juniors before the workshop.

Senior Internship Program Meeting

There is a mandatory meeting from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM on March 28 for all seniors participating in the Senior Internship Program.

11th Grade Networking Event: Planning the Spring College Search
Tuesday, March 30 | 9:30 AM

Calling all parents of juniors! Please join us to hear our NCHS Counselors discuss what juniors and their parents should be considering for their college search this spring. They will discuss how Naviance can be used as a tool in this process and how planning your student’s summer can help smooth the transition into the senior year phase of their college search.

Southern Connecticut College & Career Fair
Tuesday, April 25 | 4:30-7:30 PM

Sophmores/Juniors: Save the date for the 8th Annual Southern Connecticut College & Career Fair. With over 200 college admission counselors on hand, this is one of the largest college events in our area. The event is free and is open to all high school students and their families

NCHS Winter Musical—"The Music Man"
March 9 through 11 | 7:00 PM; March 11 | 2:00 PM

Did you miss The Music Man on Broadway? Then come see it at New Canaan High School March 9-11! One of the most universally cherished treasures of the American musical theater, "The Music Man" was an instant smash hit when it premiered on Broadway on December 19, 1957. It went on to win five Tony Awards, including    Best Musical, and ran for 1,375 performances. The Smithsonian Institution ranks "The Music Man" as one of the “great glories” of American popular culture. Truly an event for all ages from grandkids to grandparents, you don’t want to miss this amazing production. Click HERE for tickets and more information. COMMUNITY NEWS
After-School Water Color Painting
Thursdays, March 2, 9, 19, 23 | 2:45 PM

Tiffany McKay will lead this four-week series on the fundamentals of watercolor painting, where we will review the importance of materials, water and brush control. Students will learn techniques such as layering, working wet on wet, dry brushing and the uniqueness of color—color mixing differs greatly from acrylic and oil. This will be an exciting class and a great opportunity for all levels to explore the wonders of watercolor! Click HERE for more information and to register. $175 members/$190 non members. New Canaan CARES: Meeting the Needs of Siblings of Children with Disabilites

New Canaan Scholarship Foundation Color Drop

Support the NCSF with a purchase of golf balls to be entered in the 3rd annual helicopter color ball drop! 2,000 numbered golf balls will be released over a target at Waveny. The balls closest to the target will win one of four very special prizes. Click HERE to purchase your golf balls starting March 1. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the NCSF for need-based scholarships given to NCHS graduates. Buy your balls early, as this event sells out every year!

Filling in the Blanks' Unite to Fight 5K

Let’s run out childhood hunger! Register today for Filling in the Blanks’ 5th Annual Unite to Fight 5K! Join FITB and unite against childhood hunger on April 2—Kids Fun Run at 8:15 AM, Run/Walk at 8:45 AM. Click HERE to register for Unite to Fight.

Filling in the Blanks fights childhood hunger by providing children in need with meals on the weekends. They deliver weekly 4000+ Weekend Meal Bags in Fairfield and Westchester Counties and add new kids every week! The need for food is great, and this event will raise valuable funds to help Filling in the Blanks add 2000 more kids to their Weekend Meal Program. #unitetofight5k
