10 Gr Networking: Teen Driving - Roadmap to Safe Driving

Grab your 10th grader and join us for an instructive seminar featuring a panel discussion on teen driving. Our experienced panel includes representatives from Lewis School of Driving, the New Canaan Police Department, and Brown,Thayer and Shedd Insurance Company. We will discuss how to be successful on the driving test, safety on the roads, tips on keeping your insurance rates down, what to do in the event of an accident, and more.

Our seniors have started to submit their college applications—now what? NCHS is lucky to welcome Ann Fleming Brown, Director of Admissions for Evaluation at Union College, to provide us with an overview of the College Admissions process (i.e. what happens after you submit the application?) as well as advice for how to manage acceptances and rejections as they come in, and how to make the important decisions that brings. Ms. Brown is extremely knowledgeable and will provide invaluable advice so bring your questions!
Heather Bianco, NCHS Senior Internship Coordinator, will also be on hand to explain the Senior Internship Program.

We look forward to seeing everyone at NCHS Open House! Below find some key information for the evening:
- Freshmen parents will meet with administration beginning at 6:30 pm in the auditorium.
- All grade levels will begin class meetings at 7:00 pm.
- Drop in during your students' assigned or free period to meet the PE and Health Ed teachers:
- 9th Grade Health Education teachers will be in Room 201
- 10th Grade Health Education teachers will be in Room 202
- Physical Education teachers will be in the Main Gymnasium.
- Support classes and classes that meet for less than a full block will be a drop-in to meet the teacher. (i.e ACES//Writing Center/Math Center/Learning Center)
- Parents should only attend the full Science class; minis do not need to meet.

Safe Driving Week (All Grades)

With a special focus on keeping our teen drivers safe, this important week-long initiative includes impactful, interactive activities including distracted driving simulators and a Fatal Vision Goggles Challenge that will drive home safety messages to bring awareness to and help prevent the riskiest of teen driving. The week concludes with an assembly featuring Chris Sandy from Choices Matter. Chris Sandy is a motivational speaker specializing in alcohol awareness. He shares his powerful story of being charged and convicted of vehicular homicide by DUI and serving 8 ½ years in prison for his crime.
